At Peaks and Quiet
Julie and John Oxtoby welcome you to our traditional country cottages which nestle in a tranquil corner of the beautiful Peak District. These are great stepping off points to enjoy this unspoilt area well away from the crowds. Inside all of our cottages are full of individual historic character, sensitively preserved, whilst outside there are exhilarating views of the Peak Park which surrounds them with walking routes from the doorsteps! Though these properties are remarkably easy to reach from the large cities, the peace and beauty of this part of the Peak District gives the impression of somewhere much more inaccessible and remote.
Bring your wellies and walking gear and explore or simply just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of this countryside retreat.
We will welcome you, your family and your two and four legged friends to our cottages which are ideally located for you to explore what the local area has to offer.
Our aim is to provide everything that you need to allow you to relax, be happy and learn to love this beautiful homestead and areas as much as we do.
Our Cottages
Set within the secluded grounds of the listed Slade House Farm,which dates back to the 17th century, lie our three unique properties:
These properties are ideal for combination booking to allow extended family and friends to be close by but have their own space too. Booked together they can accommodate 14 people.
A short 10 minutes drive away is our fourth cottage, River Lodge, an historic mullioned windowed, limestone cottage along a riverbed.

From the perimeter of the properties you can enjoy some of the finest views over the Peak District overlooking the Manifold Valley, Thorpe Cloud at the entrance to Dovedale and are just a short drive to the historic towns of Ashbourne, Leek, Buxton and Bakewell. These beautiful towns have their own characterful shops, eateries and restaurants. Fresh local produce abounds.
You can bring your bikes or hire them nearby making a cycle down the the Manifold and Tissington trails perfect holiday activities too.
Whilst the cottages offer the perfect opportunity, all year round to relax into the natural world around you, they are also ideally located for walking the hills and paths of the Peak District, exploring the tiny hamlets such as close by Ilam and the limestone valleys of Dovedale and Milldale, all without getting back in your car.
There are two public footpaths through our farmyard with the possibility of long and short circular walks from your door. The area is a favourite for nature-lovers of all sorts, including walkers, rock climbers, cyclists and hang gliders.
